Jakarta, (AntaraKL) - Indonesian Ambassador to Malaysia, Rusdi Kirana, has supported the realization of the twin cities program, or the bonding of Indonesia and Malaysia, as an effort to develop the tourism sector.

"We have discussed about this with the Malaysian government," he stated, when signing the cooperation of the Lion Group and CFM International, here on Thursday.

Kirana noted that one of the programs could be related to some tourism destinations, such as Yogyakarta with Kuala Lumpur or Manado with Kinabalu.

Besides, the officials have also intensified the promotion program and tour package.

He noted that Thailand could attract around 34 million tourists per year. Therefore, Indonesia is also expected to attract tens of millions of foreign tourists in the next year.

Earlier, Vice Chairman of the House Commission X, Abdul Fikri Faqih, wanted the government to focus more on developing the national tourism sector.

"I had asked a man from the UK on why he was interested in coming here, and he answered that he admired the beautiful panorama, including forests, rivers, mountains, and seas, of Indonesia" he remarked.

He further stated that Indonesia has many natural attractions. Unfortunately, because of the large number of potentials, the government and people are unable to focus on how to manage it.

The Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) politicians suggested that both central and regional governments need to be more focused and learn to maximize the potential well.

Moreover, the cultural arts can also be developed as an attraction for tourists.

"For example, traditional puppet art can be made more interesting to attract tourists," he added.
